Does it really work without electricity?
Yes. The mylar layer reflects heat instead of making it. Your cat is the heater. The mat stops that heat leaking into the floor. It is the same principle as an emergency blanket.
Is it warm when the cat is not on it?
No. It has no power source. It warms up within minutes of your cat lying down, and that is the point: no energy use, nothing left running.
How do I clean it?
Surface clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Air dry. Do not tumble dry: heat damages the reflective layer.
How long is delivery?
About a week, tracked. We email the tracking number when it ships. Exact timings are in our shipping policy.
My cat ignores new beds. Will it ignore this?
Cats hunt warm spots. This makes the warmest spot in your house wherever you put the mat. Most cats find it on their own. If yours does not, put it where they already sleep.
Which size should I pick?
Measure the spot you have in mind rather than the cat. S (61 x 45 cm) suits a windowsill or a small bed. M (76 x 51 cm) is the one most people take, and fits a sofa cushion or a crate. L (89 x 58 cm) and XL (104 x 73 cm) are for a big cat who sprawls, or two cats who will not share nicely.
Is it safe if my cat chews or claws it?
The mylar sits between the corduroy top and the padded base, so your cat is not in contact with it. The mat is not a chew toy, and if yours is a determined chewer we would keep an eye on it, same as any bed.
How long does it last?
There is nothing to wear out or run down, no battery and no element. The reflective layer keeps working as long as it stays intact, which is why we say surface clean rather than tumble dry.
Can I use it in a carrier or outdoors?
In a carrier, yes, and it is one of the better uses for the S size on a cold trip to the vet. Outdoors we would not: it is not waterproof, and a wet mat will not reflect much of anything.
